Greg Hillis

Horn/Trumpet, Conductor, Educator, Composer/Arranger

Greg is available for lessons on all brass instruments (trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium and tuba). He has an active studio, working with more than 30 beginner through advanced players ages 9 to adult. With over 20 years teaching experience, he has the ability to individually tailor lessons based on the needs and interests of the student.

Areas of focus in lessons include fundamentals of note/rhythm reading, tone production/quality, breathing, articulation, and phrasing. Other goals include acquiring a vocabulary of musical terms and developing critical listening skills.

Current and former students have performed with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, Contemporary Youth Orchestra, Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony, Etowah Youth Orchestra, and regional honors ensembles. His students have been accepted to continue their studies and performance opportunities at Cleveland State University, Kent State University, The University of Akron, SUNY Fredonia, and The University of Toledo, among others. Several have earned scholarships as well.

Lessons are available at Hiram College, Geauga Music Center in Chardon, Rabbit Run Community Arts Assoication in Madison and at Greg's home in Chardon. For students living outside the Cleveland area, lessons can be done via Skype (intermediate to advanced students only).
